Where it all began
Ganesh Bakery has proudly served generations of customers with authentic bakery products, premium ingredients, and traditional recipes. What began as a small family bakery in 1964 has grown into one of Thoothukudi's most cherished names.
Our iconic Thoothukudi Macroons, crisp, light and made from the finest cashews, have travelled from our humble ovens to homes across India, carrying with them the warmth and flavour of generations of bakers.
The Town
What Thoothukudi Is Famous For
Thoothukudi is famous for its macroons, the crisp cashew-and-egg-white meringue that no other town in India makes quite the same way. Ask anywhere in Tamil Nadu what Thoothukudi is known for and you will hear two answers: the port, and the macroons.
The town on the Gulf of Mannar has been a trading harbour for centuries, and the sweet carries that history in its ingredients. Cashew and sugar arrived through the docks; European bakers passing through left behind the meringue. What the town's bakers made of the two became something neither had brought: lighter than a European meringue, built on cashew rather than almond, and baked slow until it shatters at the first bite.
Ganesh Bakery has been part of that story since 1964, baking macroons from the same address on V.E Road for six decades. The town made the sweet famous; we have spent sixty years trying to be worthy of it.
