Question 1

What is a Thoothukudi macroon?

Accepted Answer

The Thoothukudi macroon is a light, crisp meringue sweet made from cashew nuts and egg white, baked to a delicate crunch. It is the signature sweet of Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu: a recipe local bakeries have perfected over generations, quite different from the French macaron. Ganesh Bakery has baked them on V.E Road since 1964.

Question 2

Where can I buy authentic Thoothukudi macroons?

Accepted Answer

From a Thoothukudi bakery that actually makes them. Ours is Ganesh Bakery, Shop No. 533, V.E Road, opposite VOC Market, baking macroons since 1964. If you are not in Thoothukudi, we vacuum-seal and deliver the same macroons across India through our online shop.

Question 3

What sweets is Thoothukudi famous for?

Accepted Answer

Thoothukudi is best known for its macroons, the crisp cashew-and-egg-white meringue unique to the town. Traditional bakeries here also make ghee sticks, butter biscuits, rusks and rich plum cakes, all of which we bake fresh and ship across India.

Question 4

What makes Ganesh Bakery macroons special?

Accepted Answer

We have baked macroons in the same shop on V.E Road since 1964, using the traditional recipe: whole cashews, fresh egg white and a slow bake for the signature crisp-outside, melt-inside texture. Each batch is made by hand in small quantities and shipped within 24 hours of your order.
